Transportation in Beijing
Bus is one of the main transportation methods in Beijing. Please prepare small bills since there is no-change in all bus lines. It would be very crowded in rush hours at 07:00-09:00 and 16:00-18:00.
The subway system in Beijing has twenty-three lines till now. The basic fare is 3 yuan per entry with additional fees according to your travelling distance. Subway lines generally run from 05:30 until 23:00, which shall be subject to line numbers, business days, and large events. A ticket can be purchased at the ticket office or automatic ticketing machine of each station. You can also buy Beijing transportation card at the ticket office of each subway station. Subway stop information are announced over the train's speaker system in Chinese and English.
Taxis in Beijing have several colors. All of them have a taximeter inside. You can easily find them in every part of Beijing. Within 3 kilometers, the taxi fee is RMB 14 yuan, which consists of RMB 13 yuan starting fare and RMB 1 yuan fuel surcharge. All Taxis will charge an extra RMB 2.3 yuan per kilometer if the distance is more than 3 kilometers. An overall additional 20% fee will be charged if you take the taxi in the late night from 23:00 to 05:00.
Beijing's May is filled with bright reds and vivid greens everywhere. Normally, the weather is very warm with the temperature remaining 10-25°C (50-77°F). There are usually less windy days and few sandstorms during this month. There might be some drizzle but clear and sunny days are in the majority.
The registration fee does not include insurance for the participants regarding accidents, sickness or loss of personal property. It is advisable to make your own arrangements in respect of health and travel insurance before leaving your countries.
In China, only RMB is used. However, exchange centers can be found at airports, banks, most hotels and large shopping centers. The exchange rate is may be different according to the place you choose (e.g. different banks have different rates everyday, and other exchange centers may charge an additional fee). When exchanging money, please keep your receipt by which you can change any remaining RMB back to foreign currency when leaving China. Visa, Master, American Express and JCB are accepted in many shopping malls and hotels.
